I'd known from early on that I was going to make all of her baby food myself for lots of reasons. I like the idea of knowing EXACTLY what's going into her food and EXACTLY how old it is. It's disturbing to me that the jarred varieties don't expire for months and months yet aren't refrigerated and don't have preservatives in them? Weird. A lot of the commercial foods don't even taste like the food they are supposed to be. Bananas for example... they put so much citric acid in them that they taste tart and nothing like a banana at all. But mostly I wanted to make baby food because I just love to cook and I love to cook things for the people I love. So why not start early with Hattie?
Here's the thing with Hattie though.. she'll eat anything. Really. I could go collect dirt out of the yard and throw it in the food processor with a little water or forumla and she'd eat it. And be excited about it.
Not once have I given her a formula, medicine, food, juice, etc that she hasn't liked. The only food she wasn't ABSOLUTELY CRAZY about was avocado. And when I say that I mean she still finished it and didn't spit any out, she just wasn't squealing and kicking and giggling the whole time. Normally I can't feed her fast enough. She opens her mouth in anticipation of the next bite before I even get the spoon into the bowl to scoop more out.
It's good though, I'm glad she's such a good eater. I hope stays that way. I think I am a fairly good eater.. but God know her dad isn't. He's like a 5 year old. I can count ALL of the food he likes on my fingers.
Just for fun here's a list of the foods Hattie has devoured so far.. in order
- Butternut Squash
- Sweet Potatoes
- Carrots
- Green Beans
- Peas
- Bananas
- Apples w/ cinnamon
- Avocado
- Peaches w/ nutmeg
- Pears w/ vanilla bean
