6 Months.... Time Flies When You're Exhausted!!

Thursday, September 2, 2010

So my little bean became a half of a year old last Saturday..... Today she had her official 6 months check up at the pediatrician.
She is right on track developmentally, actually even a little ahead of the game and she is now 16lbs 6oz. and 27 inches long! That puts her weight just above the 50th percentile and her height is still in the 75th percentile. That's right, you heard me. 75TH PERCENTILE. Who says little hobbit me can't have child that's tall for her age?!

It's absolutely crazy how much she has learned in 6 months time. When we brought her home I could count the things she could do on one hand. Well... two fingers do be exact. Eat and sleep. 1, 2.

Here's what she's up to nowadays:
  •  Rolling. And I don't mean like let me flip over so i can play with this toy better or look around rolling... I mean like me see how many times I can roll consecutively rolling. Or how fast I can escape from anywhere rolling. Hit the ground running? Hattie hits the floor rolling. I try to keep her in one area by building a little pillow wall around her blanketed area so she doesn't roll all over the dog hair covered carpet..... I don't know why I still do this. She always somehow ends up outside of the pillow wall.
  • She can now find her pacifier and put it in her mouth by herself when she wants it. She can also take it out of her mouth when she doesn't want it.. or even when she does want it. It's tough business deciding whether you'd rather have a pacifier in your mouth or pull it out. She really seems to like to take the pacifier out and examine it for a minute then put it back in.
  • Peek-a-boo. Probably a close second to rolling, peek-a-boo provides hours of fun. It's funny no matter who she's playing it with. Mommy, Daddy, the dog, random kids in the doctor's office, the baby we keep in the mirror. No matter what, peek-a-boo always leads to smiling and laughing. She especially loves it if you mix it up and appear somewhere other than she was expecting (i.e. opposite side of what you're hiding behind.)
  • Sitting. Kind of. She can sit for 30-40 seconds on her own supporting herself with her hands/arms. Or even longer with no support if you can get her to really focus on something. She ends up getting distracted or excited though and topples over.
  • Becoming mobile. I can lie Hattie down on the floor, go to the restroom and when I come back, she's halfway to the opposite side of the room. How? Don't ask me. My best guess is some kind of clever combination of an army crawl, rolling and being able to face herself any direction she pleases when she's on her belly. It's a mystery to me though how she's able to get from one place to the other so effectively though. It always happens when I'm not looking.
I feel like her little personality is already becoming apparent and she's becoming like a real person. Not that she's not a real person now, but I feel like sometimes I actually have a little insight into what she's thinking. It's amazing. I don't feel like I'm one of those people who doesn't want their baby to grow up. Yet. It's so exciting to me when she does something new and I look forward to all the things she'll probably learn in the next several months. Now when she gets to the point where she's pretty much figured things out... I will probably be okay with her staying that way forever.
